Where ₹1 Lakh Can Create Semi-Passive Income in India

₹1 lakh is useful capital, but it cannot reliably replace a salary. At a hypothetical 6% annual yield it produces ₹6,000 a year before tax, or ₹500 a month on average.

1. Separate reserve money from risk capital

If this is your entire safety buffer, its first job may be access rather than income. A deposit can illustrate predictable interest under its terms; market-linked investments cannot promise the same cash flow or principal stability.

2. Compare five possible routes

Consider a deposit, a bond, a REIT, a reusable digital product, or a small equipment-rental activity. These are alternatives to investigate, not a suggested allocation. Bonds have issuer and price risk; REIT distributions vary; products and rentals require work, maintenance and customer acquisition.

3. Test realistic net income

Write the expected cash received, costs, taxes, access time and possible loss for each option. Avoid relying on advertised high yields or taking a loan to amplify returns. Keep a small experiment separate from essential savings.
